Hmmm, debating whether to admit to a completely bad temper and mood today!! Not quite sure why but it often happens after what I would consider to be a 'good spell, probably a kind of check and balance to stop me getting complacent. I wanted to just get the hell out of the studio but made myself sit tight and keep working, I chucked a load of 'no hopers' into the log burner which needed rekindling( I had lit the days fire using some old canvases what werent making the grade either!!) Finally this oil sketch rewarded me for staying on the premises, I had had a few goes and not got the tonal values right. It is all about the neck rather than the horses face, which is lost in shadow, I wanted to show the lovely shadow down the shoulder blade and the pattern of shadow and reins on the sunlit neck and where it shadows the throat latch on the cheek.
I sincerely hope normal mood is resumed tomorrow!
